Welcome to Year 6
Teachers: Miss Taylor and Miss Bowkett
Teaching Assistant: Miss Tucker and Mrs McNally
Homework will be sent out every Friday and is expected to be handed in the following Thursday. Spelling tests will happen weekly; every Thursday. Homework, particularly in the lead up to SATs, will be given most days with the expectation that it comes back into school the next day. This will support your child’s learning for the next day. If you have any questions, please ask. You can speak to Miss Bowkett on the yard each morning, attend one of the open classroom events, or come along to a parent workshop where we explain things in even more detail.
Timestable Rockstars logins have been given to your child. There in an expectation that they use this 3+ times a week to ensure they have all their timestables consolidated. Please see the link attached below.
Year 6 PE is every Monday, all PE kits must be in school on Monday; this must include outdoor and indoor wear for all weather eventualities.

WOW! We have had some fantastic Challenge X homework this week. Megan has spent a huge 30+ hours creating a Lego model of the Taj Mahal; it looks brilliant and I am so proud of her effort and commitment to her learning out of school. Everybody handed in their homework on time this week and it’s clear that Year 6 are determined to take pride in their learning. Keep up the hard work and I can’t wait to see the home learning arrive next week.

Another fantastic week in Year 6. In reading we have continued to develop our find and retrieval skills with a particular focus on skimming and scanning for key words. In maths we have shown a great understanding of multiples, factors and prime numbers. In writing we have continued to edit our work using ARMS – Add, Remove, Move, and Substitute. Our writing is continuing to develop and I’m really impressed! Challenge X is well underway and our knowledge of India is developing. Attitudes towards learning are brilliant and everyone is supportive of each other’s achievements which is lovely to see. Keep it up Year 6.

We have had another brilliant week in Year 6. In maths we have begun to look at the four operations, specifically focusing on the strategies we use to solve the problems. In writing we have looked at improving our writing even further, in particular our understanding of sentence structure, verb tense and punctuation. In reading we have looked at summarising paragraphs which enables us to find answers quickly. Keep up the hard work Year 6, I’m really impressed.

Welcome back Year 6! We have had an incredibly positive week back at school with everyone showing a great attitude towards their learning. In reading we have begun to explore our new book, Black Powder, with a particular focus on the meaning of vocabulary. In maths we have been smashing our place value. In writing we have begun a first draft of a setting description; thinking about the importance of word choice, descriptive language and punctuation for impact. In Challenge X we have started our research about India. Boosters begin on Monday for those selected. Boosters are likely to change each half term, so keep your eyes peeled for a letter.
